THE ESSENTIALS
NEWS & EVENTS
The Learning-Focused Rubric Set contains 5 rubrics that assist schools in setting appropriate implementation targets and goals. The Rubric Set will also aid those schools in measuring the quality of their efforts. The rubrics help a school answer the questions:
- What should it look like as we implement our Learning-Focused Schools Project?
- What should we do next?
- Are we doing ok?
- Are we doing great?
- What do we need to improve?
- Are we a Learning-Focused School yet?
The Rubric Set has five rubrics, 23 distinct criteria, and a total of 100 points. 21 of the criteria have a maximum of 4 points. Two of the rubric criteria are double weighted for a maximum of 8 points each. (Those criteria contain the "x2" notation.) They are in Rubric #1, Implementation Rubric -- Learning-Focused Model Components, and in Rubric # 3, Learning-Focused Instruction Rubric -- Lesson / Unit Structure. There is a bonus criterion in the Assessment Rubric for District Analysis of Data. Since it has to do with a district-wide effort,it does not affect a school's score, but a school can count it if it wants.
Remember, you should use the rubrics not just to get a grade, but to assist you in improvement. These are formative assessment rubrics. Schools, districts, and education state departments often need a benchmark on which to compare a school. The Rubric Set will also help guide a school on next steps, quality issues, and setting appropriate goals and strategies.
